Dictionary of Irish Biography publishes 36 new entries

The DIB has published its latest collection of new entries online, adding thirty-six new lives to its corpus of nearly 11,000.

An eclectic group of men and women who have made significant contributions to Irish culture, politics and society, the new entries include: Gerry Conlon (1954–2014), victim of a miscarriage of justice turned human rights campaigner; Dublin-born Hollywood star Maureen O’Hara (1920–2015); Kerry politician Jackie Healy-Rae (1931–2014); singer Val Doonican (1927–2015); trade unionist and historian Donal Nevin (1924–2012); and broadcaster and academic Brian Farrell (1929–2014) whose entry was contributed by David McCullagh.
