Watch back the TU Dublin ‘Stages of Memory’ online series of talks

In April and May 2022, TU Dublin Conservatoire presented three Thursday talks by leading experts in the histories of Grangegorman. ‘Stages of Memory’ is supported by Grangegorman Histories.

As part of its ‘Stages of Memory’ project, TU Dublin Conservatoire presented a series of free, online talks exploring Grangegorman’s past as a site of mental healthcare, asylum and incarceration. Delivered by leading experts with years of experience researching the history of Grangegorman, the talks addressed perspectives on the history of psychiatry at the site, the records in the Grangegorman archives, and responding to the stories and the records artistically. Recordings of those talks are now available from the below.

Dr. Christina Henri

Tasmania-based artist who created an installation about women transported to Australia from Grangegorman’s women’s penitentiary

Dr. Brendan Kelly

Author of Grangegorman Histories: Inside the Asylum (forthcoming), Professor of Psychiatry TCD, Consultant Psychiatrist in Tallaght University Hospital

Mr. Brian Donnelly
