Grangegorman Histories: Resources for further study

Grangegorman Histories: Resources for further study’ is a collation of primary and secondary resources relating to the histories of Grangegorman to assist anyone interested in learning more about this area.

Over the past 250 years, Grangegorman has been the site of a workhouse, a hospital and a prison and now the site is currently being redeveloped as a health and education campus for the HSE, TU Dublin and the local community.

The activities of the three key institutions at Grangegorman: the prison, the workhouse and the significant psychiatric facility that was closed in 2013 have always been the subject of a range of historical and contemporary record and study.

Grangegorman Histories commissioned historian and researcher, Dr Grace O’Keeffe, to undertake a comprehensive review of all published and unpublished material relating to Grangegorman since 1770. This resource is the culmination of that work and it demonstrates the breadth and detail of the recorded histories of this site.

The cataloguing of sources and resources of the histories of Grangegorman is an ongoing activity and the project welcomes any additions or omissions for inclusion in future iterations of this listing. Please contact grangegormanhistories@ggda.ie with your suggestions.
