The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity – Revised Edition 2023 was today (23 June 2023) released at the ALLEA General Assembly. The European Code of Conduct provides a framework of good practice to support researchers, the institutions in which they work, the agencies that fund them and the journals that publish their work.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Dr Maura Hiney, Royal Irish Academy, chair of the ALLEA Permanent Working Group on Science Ethics who oversaw the process of revision and redrafting noted:

“The European Code of Conduct provides a common foundation upon which researchers can ensure the quality, reliability, rigour and honesty of their research design, conduct and dissemination. The response
to the consultation process carried out as part of the revision process was exceptional, reflecting a real sense of ownership and engagement with the Code of Conduct amongst stakeholders, and acknowledging ALLEA’s and its members academies leading role in setting research integrity standards for the community.”

A detailed summary of the stakeholder feedback process and membership of the Editing Group, chaired by Professor Krista Voltanova, can be found here.
