Open Call for Membership of the Editorial Board of ‘Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy: Archaeology, Culture, History, Literature’

Expressions of interest are invited to be submitted by 22 November 2024

The Royal Irish Academy is issuing an Open Call seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals who are willing to serve on the Editorial Board of its journal Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy. The journal publishes original research papers primarily in the fields of archaeology and history, but also welcomes submissions on aspects of culture, including material culture, from the perspectives of other disciplines, as well as submissions in Celtic Studies and literature.  

Editorial Board members are appointed for five years, with the possibility of renewal for successive two-year periods (subject to availability) upon the expiration of this initial five-year period. Editorial Board members need not be based in Ireland.

The purpose of the Editorial Board is to: 

  1. Provide editorial guidance and direction consistent with the academic purpose of the journal as defined by the Academy.
  1. To assist the editors in fulfilling its scholarly and academic remit. To this end 
  • The Board will endeavour to secure sufficient contributions to sustain the journal. 
  • Ensure that contributions accepted for publication have been peer-reviewed consistent with the standards and in keeping with the standards and procedures agreed between Publisher and the Journal Editor(s). 
  • Adhere to the agreed timelines for submission of copy to the Publisher.
  1. Attend or remotely contribute to meetings of the Editorial Board.
  2. Assist and advise the Academy by recommending the appointment of a new editor when there is an editorial vacancy (arising from the vacation of the position or the completion of an editorial term).
