Launch | Irish Historic Towns Atlas Cork/Corcaigh printed and digital collections
This event marks the culmination of many years of research, mapping and collaboration by the Irish Historic Towns Atlas on the city of Cork. It brings together the print, digital, learning resources and preservation elements of IHTA Cork research.

Professor Pat Guiry, President of the Royal Irish Academy, cordially invites you to celebrate the publication and launch of Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 31, Cork/Corcaigh by H.B. Clarke and Máire Ní Laoi and the release of the associated enhanced online resource of the Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Dan Boyle, will launch the atlas and digital resources.
The event also marks the launch of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas collection in the Digital Repository of Ireland.
Howard Clarke will present ‘Authors’ Highlights’ alongside exhibits and demonstrations.
This event marks the culmination of many years of research, mapping and collaboration by the Irish Historic Towns Atlas on the city of Cork. Taking place in the Meeting Room of the Royal Irish Academy, it will bring together the printed and digital elements from the project, which you are invited to come and discover through a series of short talks, exhibits and demonstrations.
It will celebrate the printed Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 31, Cork/Corcaigh by H.B. Clarke and Máire Ní Laoi, published by the Royal Irish Academy in association with Cork City Council, which was officially launched in City Hall, Cork in May 2024. The atlas will be on display and author Howard Clarke will discuss particular aspects of the research in a presentation of Authors’ Highlights.
The associated Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh, part-funded by the Heritage Council Stewardship Fund and released as an open access interactive map in December 2023, has been updated to include new map layers and videos. The Digital Atlas will be on display and will be available for demonstration.
The event also marks the launch of Irish Historic Towns Atlas collections in the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI). Data from the Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh has been added to the DRI and will be on display alongside other Cork-related collections.
