Comórtas Crann Beo na Gaeilge | Irish Poetry Competition
Comórtas filíochta ar téama na hinbhuanaitheacht | Poetry competition on the theme of sustainability
Is mian le Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar an nGaeilge mar fhoinse scoláireachta agus mar theanga bhisiúil reatha leis na céadta bliain. Ó bunaíodh an tAcadamh i 1785, is cuid luachmhar an Ghaeilge dá oidhreacht shaibhir chultúrtha. Chuige sin, tugann lucht stiúrtha an Acadaimh cuireadh d’fhilí dán Gaeilge a bhfuil idir 20-30 líne ann a chur isteach ar chomórtas úr, ‘Crann beo na Gaeilge’. Is í an inbhuanaitheacht sa chiall is leithne téama an dáin a roghnófar. Ba cheart go léireodh an dán leanúnachas, doimhneacht agus áilleacht thraidisiún fileata na Gaeilge inár linn féin. Taispeánfar an dán a ghnothóidh go poiblí in Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann mar chuid de thríréad, arb iad sliocht as ‘Fáilte don Éan’ le Séamas Dall Mac Cuarta agus sliocht fileata as ‘Buile Shuibhne’ an péire eile, dhá shaothar a bhfuil cóipeanna díobh i dtaisce lámhscríbhinní an Acadaimh.
Tá lánchead ag file nó filí níos mór ná dán amháin a chur isteach ar an gcomórtas, cé nach roghnófar ach dán amháin sa deireadh thiar.
Beidh duais €1500 le fáil.
Cuirfear fáilte roimh iarratais faoi 1 Aibreán 2025. Seoltar iad i bhfoirm leictreonach chuig crannbeo@ria.ie le ‘Crann beo na Gaeilge’ mar theideal.
Téarmaí agus Coinníollacha:
- Dán nár foilsíodh cheana a theastaíonn, agus nár cuireadh i láthair go poiblí roimh an gcomórtas.
- Is ag Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann amháin a bheas cóipcheart an dáin a ghnóthóidh an duais, agus beidh cead ag an Acadamh é a chur ar taispeáint i dTeach an Acadaimh nó in áiteanna gaolmhara.
- Is le cead an Acadaimh amháin a chuirfear an dán i láthair ar aon bhealach go ceann cúig bliana tar éis fhoilsiú thoradh an chomórtais.
- Déanfar na dánta a mheas de réir a dtréithe ealaíonta agus de réir a fheabhas is a théann siad i ngleic le téama na hinbhuanaitheachta, faoi mar a míníodh é i bPlean Straitéiseach an Acadaimh 2024-2028. Fáilteofar go speisialta roimh dhán ó fhilí ar baill iad de ghrúpaí tearcionadaíochta.

The Royal Irish Academy wishes to celebrate the Irish language as both a resource for scholarship and a vibrant living language for many centuries. Since the foundation of the Academy in 1785, the Irish language has been part of its rich cultural legacy. To that end the Academy has established a poetry competition, ‘Crann beo na Gaeilge’, and invites submissions of poetry in the Irish language of 20-30 lines on the broad theme of sustainability, as articulated in its 2024-2028 strategic plan. Entries should be a testament to the continuity, depth and beauty of the Irish poetic tradition in its contemporary form. The winning poem will be displayed publicly in the Royal Irish Academy as part of a triptych, the other sections of which will be lines from ‘Fáilte don Éan’ by Séamas Dall Mac Cuarta and a poetic excerpt from ‘Buile Shuibhne’, copies of each of which form an important part of the RIA’s manuscript holdings.
Entrants may submit more than one poem for consideration, but only one poem will be chosen as winner.
A prize of €1500 will be awarded.
Submissions will be welcome on or before the 1 April 2025. They should be sent electronically to crannbeo@ria.ie with ‘Crann Beo na Gaeilge’ as the subject.
Terms and Conditions:
- Poems entered for the competition must not have been published before the results of the competition are announced.
- The RIA will retain copyright and will reserve the sole right to display the winning poem in Academy House, Dawson St., Dublin 2, or in related sites.
- The poem may be published elsewhere but only with the permission of the RIA for a period of five years following the announcement of the result of the competition.
- Poems will be scored based on the artistic ambition and engagement with the theme of sustainability as outlined in the 2024-2028 strategic plan. Applications are especially welcome from under-represented groups.
