Sustainability
The Royal Irish Academy is committed to sustainability and climate action. As a public body the Academy must meet the Public Sector Climate Action Mandate.
The Royal Irish Academy is committed to not just meeting but going beyond its obligations on sustainability and climate action. The Royal Irish Academy has also pledged to be a Net Zero greenhouse gas emitting organisation by 2050 along with several sister academies. The Academy strives to take into account best-practice recommendations on climate action from similar contexts and apply these across the organisation. Academy staff receive training on sustainability issues and climate action and are invited to share ideas for initiatives.
The Royal Irish Academy has established a staff Green Team made up of staff members from many departments and grades. The Green Team is a driver of sustainability within the organisation. The Green Team organises staff awareness events, coordinates staff action on climate issues and contributes to the Academy’s reporting.
