Grangegorman Lives: Patrick Thomas Daly
The next addition to our Grangegorman Lives series is Patrick Thomas Daly, born on this day (2 December) in 1870, trade unionist and republican.
Patrick Thomas Daly (1870 – 1943) was a Dublin born trade unionist and republican. After holding an apprenticeship as a compositor, Daly went on to work in the printing industry, starting with the Irish Daily Independent. A supporter of the Irish republican movement, Daly was sworn into the Irish Republican Brotherhood by 1897. Continuing to build his influence in Dublin labour and municipal politics, Daly was appointed chairman of the Grangegorman Mental Hospital Committee in 1915. Daly would maintain this position for nearly three decades, until his death in 1943.
