Felix Hackett
The Felix Hackett Papers were presented to the Royal Irish Academy by the Murnaghan family in 1971. Felix Edward Hackett (1882-1970), MRIA, was a renowned Irish physicist.
Felix Edward Hackett (1882-1970), MRIA, physicist, was born 15 August 1882 in Omagh, Co. Tyrone. He studied at UCD and in 1905 was appointed a Junior Fellow of the Royal University of Ireland where until 1907 he worked on radioactivity with RUI Professor J.A. McClelland. Following study at John Hopkins University, Baltimore, he was awarded a PhD there in 1908. In 1910, Hackett was appointed as lecturer at the Royal College of Science, later being promoted to Professor of Physics in 1921. He retired from UCD in 1952.
