The event also marks the launch of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas collection in the Digital Repository of Ireland.
Howard Clarke will present ‘Authors’ Highlights’ alongside exhibits and demonstrations.
This event marks the culmination of many years of research, mapping and collaboration by the Irish Historic Towns Atlas on the city of Cork. Taking place in the Meeting Room of the Royal Irish Academy, it will bring together the printed and digital outputs from the project, which you are invited to come and discover through a series of short talks, exhibits and demonstrations.
It will celebrate the printed Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 31, Cork/Corcaigh by H.B. Clarke and Máire Ní Laoi, published by the Royal Irish Academy in association with Cork City Council, which was officially launched in City Hall, Cork in May 2024. The atlas will be on display and author Howard Clarke will discuss particular aspects of the research in a presentation of 'Authors’ Highlights'.
The associated Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh, part-funded by the Heritage Council Stewardship Fund 2023 and released as an open access interactive map in December 2023, has been updated to include new map layers and videos. The Digital Atlas will be on display and will be available for demonstration.
The event also marks the launch of Irish Historic Towns Atlas collections in the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI). Data from the Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh has been added to the DRI and will be on display alongside other Cork-related collections.
