This seminar will add impetus to the implementation of the national policy approach on research for policy being advanced by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. It has a particular focus on universities themselves - the main aim of this seminar is to advance consideration of the developments both within and between universities with a view to identifying what approaches and actions that they might take to be more effective in seeking to enhance the impact of research on public policy.

The seminar will include a setting of the national policy scene and will give an overview of relevant national and international developments. It will then have 2 case studies – one from the University of Liverpool and one from University College Dublin – to look at the steps being taken and the issues and challenges arising. The seminar will conclude with a panel and wider discussion. The seminar will be of interest for those within the university community working to advance research for policy. It will also be relevant to those funding research activities and to policy-makers working with researchers or seeking to do so.

The Royal Irish Academy is planning further seminars and activities to support the implementation of the research for policy agenda for change based on the "Research for Public Policy: An Outline Roadmap" document published jointly with the Irish Research Council in September 2021.

Please note: Registration opens at 10am. The first speaker will commence at 10.30. Lunch will be available to attendees from 13.15.
