Read & Publish agreements

Royal Irish Academy Read & Publish agreements allow researchers from participating institutions to access all our journal content and enable corresponding authors from those institutions to publish papers as open access in any Royal Irish Academy journal with no article processing charge (APC). If your institution is listed below, you can publish open access with us for no fee.

The Read & Publish agreements apply to all articles accepted between 1 January and 31 December of the year the agreement is in place. Currently, the Academy has R&P agreements with IReL and JISC.

Preprints

Authors may deposit a preprint of their article in a repository at any time.

Peer-review vouchers

We are sincerely grateful to scholars who give their time to peer-review articles submitted to RIA journals. As a token of our gratitude, all peer reviewers will receive an OA voucher that will cover the APC on any future article that is submitted and subsequently accepted for publication in the journal that the author provided a review for. OA vouchers are non-transferable and valid for 12 months.

Discretionary waivers

We will apply a waiver to the APC for articles published in Royal Irish Academy journals in cases where corresponding authors lack funds and are not eligible for other means for funding support.

Retrospective open access

We offer authors the option for an article previously published on a subscription basis to be converted to open access. On payment of an APC, the article is made available under our open access licence. If you are interested, please contact RIA Publications Office.
