Research Cultures
Research culture encompasses the behaviours, values, expectations, attitudes and norms of our research communities. It influences researchers’ career paths and determines the way that research is conducted and communicated. Research culture is continuously evolving and changing in line with workplace and technological changes. The advances in artificial technology and their likely impact on research culture and on how research is completed has the potential to be a particularly disruptive influence on current research culture. Similarly, the move towards open access for all publicly-funded research will have a continued impact on research culture.
Research culture can vary by place and institution but many of the essential tenets will always overlap: research integrity, collaboration and transparency. This conference will be forward-looking and will examine how research culture might evolve in the next decade and will question how that evolution may impact the research landscape. It will invite a range of speakers from across CAA countries and also speakers from further afield to give a global context to the discussion.
The Royal Irish Academy is interested in exploring how our research environments converge and differ in this area and how each of the devolved nations represented might learn from each other and work together to build strong and progressive shared research and innovation cultures.
The Academy will join its colleagues in the Celtic Academies Alliance (Royal Society of Edinburgh and Learned Society of Wales) to host a Research Culture and Innovation Conference on the 15th of November, 2024, in the Royal Irish Academy.
