We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Irish Historic Towns Atlas (IHTA) Cork/Corcaigh by H.B. Clarke and Máire Ní Laoi will be published by the Royal Irish Academy (in association with Cork City Council) in 2024. In advance of the printed atlas and with support from the Heritage Council’s Stewardship Fund 2023, a Digital Atlas of the City of Cork is under preparation and will be released in November 2023.
